The Midpoint Cafe in Adrian, Texas, is a Rt. 66 stop not to be missed.

Fran, the owner, is a great cook and famous for her ugly crust pies. This is the center of the Mother Road and a memorable stop. Ace Jackalope enjoys a piece of pie now and then.

The gift shop is the original cafe, and well stocked with Route 66 goodies.

Wigwam Motel in Rialto California

The Route 66 Minute Podcast destination this week is The Wigwam Motel in Rialto, California.

Download the Route 66 Minute Podcast about the Rialto Wigwam Motel. You'll be able to listen on your computer just by going to the Podcaster News site.

The Wigwam Motel in Rialto, California is now a great place to stay. Right on Route 66, the motel has had a checkered past. At one time the sign proclaimed, "Do it in a wigwam."

But the new owners have done a magnificent job of bringing it back. My motto is, "When you can sleep in a Wigwam, you should sleep in a Wigwam." When we were there they were working pretty much constantly on the property.

These photos were taken in August of 2005.

There's some dispute about when the Wigwam was built, but regardless of it's origins, it's a great place to stay now.

The rooms are clean and well appointed. The bathrooms are small, but - hey - they're in a wigwam. There was plenty of hot water, plenty of water pressure. It was quiet. Overall a great stay.

This is a classic Route 66 stop, and not to be missed.
